"UNRWA IS ROTTEN TO THE CORE"
Hillel Neuer, representing UN Watch, delivers a compelling critique of UNRWA's complicity and ignorance regarding Hamas' activities in Gaza. Speaking in the Qatar-sponsored hall, Neuer highlights the irony of discussing humanitarian aid in proximity to where Hamas leaders enjoy luxury in Doha. He questions UNRWA's funding, pointing to a disturbing discovery on February 10th that a terror tunnel was operating right beneath UNRWA's headquarters in Gaza, powered by UNRWA's own resources.
Neuer cites historical incidents and recent revelations that challenge UNRWA's claims of ignorance, including a 2014 incident where a part of the parking lot at UNRWA headquarters began sinking, likely due to a Hamas tunnel beneath. Despite these alarming signs, UNRWA's leadership, including Felipe Lazarini, has consistently denied knowledge of such activities. Neuer further underscores the involvement of numerous UNRWA employees in the October 7th massacre, challenging Lazarini's dismissal of the issue as a case of 'a few bad apples.'
Highlighting the systemic problems within UNRWA, Neuer recounts the 2011 suspension of Su al Hindi, a chair of the UNRWA staff union and principal of a boys' school, for his role with Hamas, leading to an 8,000-strong strike by UNRWA staff in Gaza in solidarity. Neuer's testimony at the Human Rights Council calls for a critical reevaluation of UNRWA, describing the organization as 'rotten to the core' and demanding accountability for its role in facilitating terror activities under the guise of humanitarian aid.
